Bears open with sweep

Pleasant Valley managed a sweep in its boys and girls MVC basketball openers on Friday night.

BOYS BASKETBALL

ES North-Pleasant Valley

The Bears and Timberwolves played nose throughout their Mountain Valley Conference opener with Pleasant Valley pulling out a 52-49 winin overtime.

The contest ended regulation all tied up at 41-41, but Nick Stanovick was solid making his last four free throws in OT to seal the win.

Mike Sharpe finished with a game high 21 points for the Bears, while Stanovick added 11. Salim Wyche finished with 13 for the Timberwolves, while David Rey added 12 and Jamal Fort 11.

Pleasant Valley also won the JV game by a 44-23 score.

PM East-Lehighton

The Cardinals broke open a 35-point lead heading into the final quarter and coasted to a 56-33 MVC win over the host Indians.

Pocono Mountain East took a 15-5 lead after one period and then scored 19 points in the second quarter, while holding the Tribe to just seven and never looked back.

Kamal Richards had a game high 17 points for the Cards, while Tim Pacheco added 12. D. J. Rossino took honors for the Indians with 12, while Cordell Wall added 10.

Pleasant Vy.-ES North

The Lady Bears jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in beating East Stroudsburg North by a 61-20 score in the MVC opener for both.

Kasey Meckes and Kolecia Harris scored 12 and nine points respectively in the first quarter to give PV a 23-6 lead.

Meckes finished with a game high 19 points, while Arden Cisluycis added 12 on four three-pointers and Harris 1. Francesca LoCascio's six points led the T'wolves.

Tamaqua-Minersville

The Tamaqua eight grade basketball team handed Minersville a 55-38 loss.

Brett Kosciolek scored nine for the Raiders, while Zach Wargula and Connor Hartung both added eight.

Tobin finished with 10 for the Miners.
