State police at the Lehighton barracks have released the details of a one-vehicle accident that happened at 1:05 p.m. Dec. 19 along the Little Gap Road in Lower Towamensing Township. A photograph of the crash appeared in the TIMES NEWS earlier this week.

Police said Elizabeth R. Matias, 22, of Lehighton, was the driver of the vehicle, a 2002 Chevrolet Blazer.

She was eastbound on Little Gap Road when she fell asleep, causing the vehicle to cross into the westbound lane, go off the roadway and strike an embankment. The Blazer then overturned in the middle of the roadway.

Police said Matias was flown from the scene by helicopter to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township. Police said she sustained moderate injuries.

The vehicle was towed from the scene. Police said Matias will be charged as a result of the accident.
