Ruth Isabelle Huhn, a resident at Heritage Hill Senior Community in Weatherly, is celebrating her 99th birthday on Christmas Day.

Born in Brooklyn, Indiana in 1911, Ruth was the first born child of the late William F. Weber and Jennie V. (Witmer) Weber.

After finishing school, Ruth was employed at the Reed & Lovatt silk mill in Weatherly. She was also employed as a secretary at Tung Sol Electric Company in Weatherly.

She met the love of her life, Frederic Rose Huhn and they married Feb. 24, 1935. Though Ruth never had any children of her own, she and Fred fulfilled their parenting needs by providing surrogate love and compassion to many community adolescents.

Ruth is a very passionate Penn State fan. She traveled to all of the home games as well as many of the playoff championship games with Fred before his passing in 1983.

She has always been an involved, caring woman. Her love of family, church, and friends is a living tribute to her positive deeds. She belonged to the Gray Ladies of Weatherwood since it was formed. She loved to play cards. A member of Salem United Church of Christ, she was a choir member, a Salem quilter, a consistory member, an assistant organist, a women's fellowship member and a Sunday school teacher.

Those at Heritage Hill say Ruth has a warm smile and if you have the privilege of getting to know her, she will touch your life forever.
