Tax exemptions

The Schuylkill County and Tamaqua Borough Per Capita and Occupation Tax Exemption forms for the year 2011 are currently available for Borough of Tamaqua residents.

The exemption forms can be obtained at the Tamaqua Municipal Building, 320 E. Broad St., Monday through Friday, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Forms will also be available at tax collector Alan Keer's office, the Tamaqua Area School District Administration building, the Tamaqua ABC High Rise, Majestic House Apartment Complex, the Tamaqua Public Library and the Tamaqua Post Office.

Residents must complete the form each year to qualify for the tax exemption.

Exoneration forms must be submitted by Friday, Jan. 28, 2011.

First Methodist

The Rev. James Cavallero will officiate at two worship services Christmas Eve, 7 p.m. at Salem United Methodist, and 9 p.m. at First United Methodist Church. The Christmas Cantata "A Carol Fantasia" will be presented during the 10:45 a.m. service, Dec. 26, in First Church. The cantata will be presented by the Senior Choir. This will be a joint service.

Senior citizens

The Tamaqua Senior Citizens group held an installation of officers during its Dec. 16 meeting, which was attended by 74 members and one guest, Kathleen Boos. Lillian Tomsho served as installation officers. The slate for 2011 is: Jean Machamer, president; Doris Brobst, vice-president; Joan Anne Garber, secretary; and Dolores Walck, treasurer.

Vice President Brobst sent a get well card to Margaret Sago and added Francis Koch to the sick list. Readings were offered by Jean Machamer. A thank you was offered to Jackie Jones for providing tickets for the Chinese Auction.

Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join.

Due to the holidays, the next meeting will be held on Jan. 6, at 1 p.m., at the Tamaqua Community Center.

Bethany EC

The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Nursery care is provided. The service will be followed by a Nominating Committee meeting. Sunday school for all ages is held at 9:30 a.m.

Activities for next week will include: Tuesday, prayer time at 8:30 a.m.; Wednesday, adult Bible study and Tamaqua Youth Ministry meet at 6:30 p.m.

Christmas Eve services will be held at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Dec. 24.
