Two vehicles were damaged but no one was hurt in a crash at 9:15 p.m. Dec. 23 on Old Route 209 in the Village of Newkirk, Schuylkill Township.

State police at the Frackville barracks said the accident happened when Dilian J. Zehner, 19, of Tamaqua, driving a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt south on the road, lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a curve. The vehicle corssed over into the oncoming lane of travel as Christi Truskey, 19, of Tamaqua, was northbound in a 1998 Jeep Cherokee.

Police said both operators took evasion action to try to avoid the collision, but the Cobalt struck the Jeep in the northbound lane, after which time both vehicles spun around and came to rest facing opposite their original directions of travel.

Polilce said both drivers were wearing seatbelts and were not hurt.

Zehner will be cited and will receive a summons from the office of District Justice David Plachko, Port Carbon, charging him with failure to drive on the right side of the highway.
