Lansford man, 40 charged in assault
A Lansford man will likely be eating Christmas dinner in jail.
Andrew Tyahla Sr., 40, of 347 W. Bertsch St., was charged by Officer Brian Zulic after an incident at Tyahla's house at 11:38 p.m. Dec 22. Tyahla is charged with one count each of simple assault and persistent disorderly conduct, and three summary offenses of disorderly conduct, harassment and public drunkenness. He was arraigned before District Judge Edward Lewis, Jim Thorpe, and jailed under $20,000 percentage bail.
According to an affidavit of probable cause, here's what happened:
Zulic was dispatched to the home for a domestic dispute involving a drunk male at the residence being abusive. While en route, he received a call from the Carbon County communications center dispatcher, saying that the dispute had turned physical.
When Zulic arrived at the home, a Stephanie Filer came out and said that her boyfriend, Tyahla, had just hit her while the two were fighting in the middle of the street, and that he was cursing, screaming and threatening her.
Filer told police that her neighbor had come out of his house at 345 W. Bertsch and told Tyahla to stop, but that Tyahla had refused.
Filer said that Tyahla had fled from the house.
He was found and arrested a short time later. Police noticed that Tyahla had a strong odor of alcoholic beverages about him, and he told police that he'd had a lot of alcohol to drink that night.
the incident occurred after Tyahla was told numerous times to go back into his house and to stop his disorderly actions.
