Man escapes injuries in crash

State police at the Schuylkill Haven barracks said a Pine Grove man escaped injuries when a vehicle he was driving crashed and rolled over on Dec. 23 at 12:36 p.m. on Rt. 61 in Norwegian Township.

Police said Gavin T. Bowers, 23, was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Trailblazer northbound on Rt. 61 and was in the left lane of traffic when traffic stopped for a light at the intersection of the Fairland Village Mall. Police said he was traveling too fast to stop, applying his brakes and causing the vehicle to swerve into the right lane and skidding out of control.

The Trailblazer slid off the travel lanes and across the shoulder, rotating clockwise and striking a rock embankment adjacent to the north berm. The vehicle began to roll over, coming to rest on its passenger's side.

Police said the driver was safely seatbelted in the vehicle, which was severely damaged and required towing from the scene.

The driver will be cited as a result of the crash, police said.
