Four teams post wins in season openers
The Eastern Schuylkill Recreation Commission's winter basketball league tipped-off its season on Wednesday night at the Tamaqua Elementary School gym.
Joe's Place, Matika's Lawn Care/Blazosky Funeral Home, R.R. Frey Services and Service Electric all posted opening night victories.
RESULTS
Service Electric-Cuz-N-Joe's Place
Service Electric scored 52 first-half points and took down defending League Champion Cuz-N-Joe's Place by a final score of 88-62.
Service Electric had three players top the 20-point mark, with Josh McCabe leading the way with 24 points and five treys. Jeff Krushinky added 11 field goals for 22 points in his team debut, while Jeff Peel tacked on 20. Joe Schaeffer also drained five three-pointers for 16 points.
For Cuz-N-Joe's Place, Brandon DeCosmo scored half of his team's points (31 points, 13 field goals, four three-pointers), while Mike Malloy added 16.
University Legendz-Joe's Place
Joe's Place matched its win total from all of last season with a 57-37 opening-night victory over University Legendz.
Peter Balogach buried five three-pointers for Joe's Place and led all scorers with 22 points. Travis Fink and Zach Tofany also chipped in 14 points apiece for the winners.
For University Legendz, J.R. Graver scored 13 points in the loss.

Blazosky Funeral Home-
Midas Touch Hair Salon
In a Summit Hill rivalry, Matika's Lawn Care/Blazosky Funeral Home defeated Midas Touch Hail Salon by a final score of 45-36.
Tom Miller and Jim Barron each had 11 points for Matika's, while Danny Blazosky added 10.
For Midas Touch Hair Salon, Eric Trabal and Andy McFadden netted 14 and 13 points respectively.
R.R. Frey Services-
Schaeffer's Harley Davidson
R.R. Frey Services jumped out to a 40-18 halftime lead and withstood a late Schaeffer's rally to come away with a 54-49 victory.
R.R Frey Services was led by Ryan Achenbach's 21 points, while Joe Tamagini tallied 14 of his own.
Joe Vadyak paced Schaeffer's Harley Davidson with 15 points and Kyle Schaeffer added 13.
