DUI arrests reported in Monroe

Four driving under the influence (DUI) arrests were reported in Monroe County. Pocono Mountain Regional police said the four arrests all occurred on Sunday, Jan. 31.

About 12:38 a.m. officers stopped a vehicle along SR940 at Interstate 380 for a vehicle code violation. The driver was identified as Afrim Mujovic, 48, of Mt. Pocono. He was found to be under the influence and failed field sobriety tests. He was transported to the county DUI center where he submitted to a blood test. The charge is pending the test results, police said.

About 2:25 a.m. officers on patrol in the area of SR196 and Echo Lake Road, stopped a vehicle that they observed crossing the white fog line four times and then the double yellow line twice. A check of the registration plate revealed it had expired in October 2009.

A vehicle stop was made and the driver identified as Jesse Heck, of East Stroudsburg. Heck was found to be under the influence and failed field sobriety tests. Heck refused to submit to a blood test. He was taken into custody and charged with DUI, careless driving and related offenses.

At 2:49 a.m. officers conducted a traffic stop along SR115 at Mountain Road, in Blakeslee, for various traffic violations. The driver was identified as Richard E. Diehl Jr., 32, of Nazareth. He was found to be under the influence and failed field sobriety tests. It was also learned he was driving with a suspended license.

Diehl was placed under arrest for DUI and DUI of a controlled substance. He was transported to the county DUI center for a blood test. The DUI charge is pending the test results.

At 3:44 a.m. a vehicle stop was made along SR196 at Evergreen Circle, in Tobyhanna. Police observed a Mitsubishi traveling northbound and turn onto Evergreen Circle and enter a driveway. Officers turned around and found the car backed out of the driveway and sitting on the road with the lights on.

The driver was identified as Jose Romero Hernandez, 27, of Stroudsburg. He was found to be under the influence and failed field sobriety tests. He was taken to the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg, for a blood test. In addition to the DUI charge, Hernandez was charged with driving without a license and driving without lights on to avoid identification or arrest.
