Quick response by area firefighters saved a home from flames which were engulfing an attached garage in Monroe County. The fire broke out around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday along Route 534, about a mile south of the village of Jonas. When fire companies from Polk Township and Penn Forest Fire Co. No. 2 arrived, the wood frame attached garage was fully involved. A wood-burning stove stood adjacent to the structure. Due to the remote location of the fire, water had to be tanked into the site. Route 534 was closed for several hours as firefighters battled the blaze. No injuries were reported in the incident.
