The Tamaqua Senior Citizens group meets every Thursday, at 1 p.m., at the Tamaqua Community Center, located to the rear of Boyer's Food Mart.
Last week's meeting was attended by 63 members. President Jean Machamer conducted the business session.
Eleanor Roberts offered the invocation, entitled "Is There Someone You Can Turn To?." Two new members were welcomed, Jayne McLaughlin and Antoinette Triano.
Vice President Doris Brobst reported that Aseneth Horan is hospitalized in St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital, Coaldale. A thank you card was received from Mary Herbig, who has been discharged from the hospital and is recuperating at home. The group discussed a bus trip to the Sands Casino, Bethlehem, on March 8.
The December and January birthday party was held, honoring Pat Bednarik, Jean Behr, Edna Fegley, Rosetta Folk, Tom Hanlon, JoAnn Herring, Gloria McHale, Jayne Myers, Marian Stephens, Muriel Wehr, Doris Yeager and Anna Mae Yushinsky. Birthday cake was provided to each celebrant, compliments of E. Franklin Griffiths.
Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The meeting room is handicap accessible.
Fifth-grade parents
Parents of fifth-grade students in the Tamaqua Elementary School will meet Feb. 8, at 6 p.m., to discuss plans for the upcoming party.
The meeting will be held in the school library.

St. Peter's
The Rev. Rodney Wells will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. The service will include Holy Communion. Sunday school classes will meet at 10:15 a.m.
Also on Sunday, the Confirmation Class will meet at 1 p.m. and the Cub Scouts will meet at 6 p.m.
Activities for next week will include: Monday, food Co-Op at 9 a.m., Cadette Girl Scouts meet at 6 p.m.; Tuesday, Called to Care Committee meets at 7 p.m.; Wednesday, Retirees meet at 10 a.m.; Thursday, Prayer group meets at 5 p.m. and Worship and Music Committee meets at 6 p.m.
The choirs rehearse on Thursday. Next week's schedule will include: Cherubs at 6:30 p.m., Junior Choir at 7 p.m. and Senior Choir at 7:45 p.m.
Bethany EC
The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Nursery care is available. Sunday school classes will meet at 9:30 a.m.
Also on Sunday, the PLWG will meet at 11:45 a.m.
Activities for next week include: Monday, Arcadia Hospice Training at 6 p.m.; Tuesday, Prayer Time at 8:30 a.m. and GriefShare at 1:30 p.m.; Wednesday, Tamaqua Youth Ministry at 6:30 p.m., adult Bible study at 6:30 p.m.; Friday, Couple's Bible study at 7 p.m.
