5 area teams in field
The pairings for the District 11 Team Wrestling Championships have been announced by the D-11 Wrestling Committee.
The competition is scheduled for Friday and Saturday at Freedom High School in Bethlehem.
Five TIMES NEWS area teams have qualified for the District Duals: Northern Lehigh, Lehighton, Northwestern and Panther Valley in Class AA and Pleasant Valley in Class AAA.
The folliwing pairings were posted on the District 11 website this morning.
In Class AA, there are two preliminary matches at 4:30 p.m. Friday. Northwestern, seeded eighth, will face ninth seeded Panther Valley, with the winner advancing to take on top seeded Pen Argyl in Friday's quarterfinal round.
In the other preliminary bout, seventh seeded Tri-Valley will meet 10th seeded Catasauqua, with the winner facing second seeded Bethlehem Catholic in the quarters.
The other two AA quarterfinals will pit third seeded Saucon Valley against sixth seeded Lehighton and fourth seeded Northern Lehigh vs. fifth seeded Pius X.
In Class AAA, the 4:30 preliminary round has eighth seeded Blue Mountain vs. ninth seeded Pleasant Valley, with the winner scheduled to take on top-seeded Nazareth in the quarterfinals.
The other AAA preliminary bout has seventh seeded Stroudsburg taking on fellow Mountain Valley Conference opponent Pocono Mountain East, seeded 10th, for the right to meet second seeded Parkland in the quarters.
The other AAA quarters have third seeded Northampton vs. sixth seeded Whitehall and number four Easton vs. number five Easton.
Quarterfinal round matches will be held at approximately 6 p.m. and 7:45 p.m.
On Saturday, the AA semifinals are scheduled for 11 a.m. and the AAA semis for 1 p.m. The finals are scheduled for 6 p.m.
The top two teams in each class advance to the PIAA Team Championships next week.
