Indians, Bears post wrestling wins

Lehighton and Pleasant Valley both picked up wrestling wins and were the only local team's to grab victories in scholastic action on Wednesday.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Liberty-Pleasant Vy.

The Bears outscored the Hurricanes by 13 points in the fourth quarter, but it wasn't enough as they dropped a 64-52 non-league contest.

Rich Irving scored eight of his team-high 19 points for Pleasant Valley (8-11, 4-5) in the fourth quarter as the Bears tried to stage a late comeback.

Mike Sharpe had 12 points to back up Irving.

Liberty also won the JV game by a 50-47 score.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

CMVT-Weatherly

The Lady Wreckers fell behind early and staged a brief comeback before falling 52-41 to Columbia-Montour Vo-Tech in a non-league girls game.

The loss dropped the Wreckers to 7-12 and eliminated them from the post-season playoffs.

Nicole Calia had 15 points for Weatherly.

The Wreckers won the JV game by a 44-25 score as Sara Heister had 13 points and Tracey Galada had 12.

The Hurricanes remained undefeated with a 65-39 triumph over the Bears in a non-league contest.

Melan Hardy had a team-high 12 points for the Bears.

Liberty also won the JV game 49-40.

The Eagles took advantage of three falls a couple of technical falls and three forfeits to hand the Blue Raiders a 58-12 Schuylkill League loss.

Kolby Mashack and Erik Krause were the only winners for Tamaqua, both getting falls.

The Indians won seven of the last nine weight classes en route to a 45-27 Mountain Valley Conference win over Pocono Mountain West.

The Tribe got falls from Zach Coleman, David Lucykanish, John Mertz and Jacen Nalesnik and added a technical fall from Mike Balliet. Jake Hoats, Jeremy Gornick, Anthony Farole and Mitchell Moyer added major decisions for the winners.

Whah had a game-high 20 points for the Colts.

Matt Yeakel led the Raiders with 12 points.

7TH-8TH GRADE

Weatherly-Jim Thorpe

Khaaliq Lynch scored a team-high 16 points to lead Jim Thorpe to a 43-33 victory.

Weatherly received a game-high 20 points from Nick Miller.
