Tamaqua Area seeks instruments for musical "Lending Library"

Published February 12. 2010 05:00PM

Several years ago the Instrumental Music Department of the Tamaqua Area School District requested old and unused band instruments that sat around home in closets and attics to be donated to the school for needy students who wanted to share in the joys of making music, but didn't have the ability to purchase or rent an instrument to use.

The district received several band instruments which have been added to what we called its 'Lending Library' of musical instruments.

Many people responded in a very kind way and through the additional kindness of the school district and Tamaqua Area Band Booster Association, the district was able to repair any broken or missing parts and make them playable again for needy students in the district.

With the economy as desolate as it is, the district's Music Department is once again canvassing the Tamaqua area to see if anyone would like to donate any unwanted, unused musical band instruments to the Tamaqua Area Instrumental Music Department.

Each donor will receive a letter of appreciation along with an estimated cost of the instrument that they donate. This can then be used by the donor for as a charitable donation for income tax next year.

Instrument donations may be done by contacting the band office at (570) 668-1936 any time of the day, leave a message and a staff member will return your call in a timely manner or by simply bringing the donated instrument to any elementary building, the middle school or the high school with your name and address on the instrument at your own convenience.

Help bring the joy of music to a deserving young person through membership in the Tamaqua 'Raider' Band.
