NL girls finish perfect regular season

Northern Lehigh boys and girls both rolled to easy victories over Palmerton to highlight Friday night's scholastic sport card.

The victory by the Lady Bulldogs capped a perfect regular season.

Palmerton-No. Lehigh

Northern Lehigh pulled away from Palmerton for a 65-38 Colonial League win.

The Bulldogs (17-5 overall; 12-4 CL) were paced by a fearsome foursome as Nick Pappas (18 points), Jordan Waylen (14 points), Joe Seremula (13 points) and Evan Biegley (11 points) all finished with double figures on "Ring of Honor" night.

Derek Haas was the lone Bomber (4-18; 2-14 CL) to hit double digits with 13.

In the JV game, Northern Lehigh walked off with a 39-37 win.

Panther Vy.-Pottsville

Pottsville extended Panther Valley's losing streak to four with a 54-36 Schuylkill League Division I win.

Josh Wahlen led the Crimson Tide with 18 points.

Logan Stano was the lone Panther (12-9 overall; 4-7 SL) to hit double figures with 15 points.

In the JV game, Pottsville escaped with a 34-32 victory. Joe Revell led the Panthers with nine points.

Steve Ennis made 19 free throws and finished with a game-high 36 points as the Spartans held off the Raiders in the final quarter for a 65-59 Schuylkill League victory.

Anthony Bumbulsky led Tamaqua (6-14 overall; 1-10 SL) with 22 points. Michael Streisel added 13 points and Michael Gurcsik 11.

The Spartans also won the JV game in overtime, 57-55.

Weatherly placed four players in double figures and rolled to a 65-46 Schuylkill League victory over Nativity.

Keith Barna led the Wreckers (13-8; 6-7) with 17 points and six assists. Nate Pfeiffer added 14 points, Brendan Rowan had 11 and George Wallish chipped in 10. Kyle Harris also played well, scoring eight points and pulling down a team-high 11 rebounds.

Nativity won the JV game, 49-41. Steven Valkos led Weatherly with 12 points.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Northern Lehigh capped an undefeated regular season with a 51-27 Colonial League victory over Palmerton.

The Bulldogs (22-0) were led by Sonya Josephson's game-high 15 points. Tina Bastardi chipped in with 14.

Kelsey Hay led the Bombers (14-8, 9-7) with 13 points.

In the JV game, Palmerton came out on top with a 43-24 win.

A 20-point fourth quarter surge helped Pleasant Valley pull away for a 44-34 Mountain Valley Conference win over Stroudsburg.

Megan Hardy poured in 11 of her game-high 18 points to lead the Bears' in their prolific final stanza. Kasey Meckes had a huge second quarter hitting nine of her 14 points.

Pleasant Valley improves to 6-15 overall and 4-7 in the MVC.

Pottsville needed an extra period of play to post a 52-45 Schuylkill League Division I win over Panther Valley.

Taylor Gerrchak, who led all scorers with a game-high 23 points, hit all four free throw attempts in overtime to ice the Crimson Tide victory.

Dana McFadden had 17 points to lead Panther Valley (5-16, 1-11).

In the JV game, Pottsville cruised to a 37-22 victory. Breanna Cullen paced the Panthers with eight points.

Amy Zehner had a double-double with 29 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Raiders (19-2, 10-2), who led by just three points at the break.

Shelby Weikel paced the Spartans with 12 points.

In the JV game, Tamaqua rolled to a 61-40 victory. Maria Streisel sparked the Blue Raiders with 21 points. Christine Streisel followed with 19.

The Raiders finished the season unbeaten by defeating Lehighton, 48-20.

Trevor Skripko led Tamaqua (15-0) with 13 points followed by Zachary Wargula with eight.

Crum was high man for the Indians with six points.
