Recorder of Deeds lists 2009 statistical report for Carbon Co.

More than 11,000 documents were filed in the Carbon County Recorder of Deeds office in 2009, according to an annual statistical report released by Emmett P. McCall, the current officeholder.

A breakdown of the filings included: assignments of mortgages, 625; actions to quiet title, 2; agreement of sale, 1; assignments of rents and leases, 89; deeds, 2,202; declarations of taking, 19; deeds-time shares, 366; easements, 149; elected officials' commissions, 3; financing statements-UCC 1, 11; financing statements-UCC 3, 45; highway occupancy permits, 5; lease agreements, 5; mortgages, 3,355; subdivision maps, 73; survey maps, 2; mortgage extension agreements, 2; miscellaneous, 57; miscellaneous-no parcel, 2; modification agreements, 88; notary commissions, 85; notices of assessment, 7; orders of court, 5; powers of attorney, 165; preferential assessment applications, 20; preferential assessment breach, 1; releases of mortgages, 102; satisfactions of mortgages, 3,524; and subordinations of mortgages, 122.

In all, the office received and filed 11,133 documents.

McCall said the office collected $324,702.50 in recording fees, which was turned over on a monthly basis to the Carbon County General Fund.

Other revenue derived from the Recorder of Deeds' office last year included: commission on local realty taxes, $28,713.08; commission on state realty taxes, $14,267.24; Affordable Housing administrative fee, $14,751; data processing fees, $32,730.51; commission earned on state writs and UCC statements, $193.84; and rejection fees, $6,894.

McCall said some filings throughout the year resulted in accumulated special funds, including $83,589 that was generated to assist the county in its Affordable Housing (rehabilitation) program. Also, $22,260 was received and deposited in the County Records Improvement Fund, whereas, $33,390 was added to the Recorder of Deeds Improvement Fund.

As part of the real estate recording process, the recorder's office also collected transfer taxes for area school districts and municipalities.

Accordingly, in 2009, McCall distributed those funds to the following:

School districts - Jim Thorpe Area School District, $379,468.89; Lehighton Area School District, $119,720.01; Palmerton Area School District, $123,846.44; Panther Valley School District, $57,030.51; Weatherly Area School District, $30,465.53; and Hazleton Area School District, $7,295.73.

Municipalities - Banks Township, $3,391.17; Beaver Meadows Borough, $3,904.56; Bowmanstown Borough, $6,785; East Penn Township, $17,612.97; East Side Borough, $594.50; Franklin Township, $34,861.12; Jim Thorpe Borough, $33,336.90; Kidder Township, $170,518.53 (South) and $8,816.27 (North); Lansford Borough, $15,449.37; Lausanne Township, $717.51; Lehigh Township, $1,176.30; Lehighton Borough, $35,444.37; Lower Towamensing Township, $23,428.04; Mahoning Township, $28,551.46; Nesquehoning Borough, $27,410.38; Packer Township, $4,508.81; Palmerton Borough, $44,400.46; Parryville Borough, $1,370; Penn Forest Township, $175,612.05; Summit Hill Borough, $14,170.67; Towamensing Township, $49,232.84; Weatherly Borough, $14,652.07; and Weissport Borough, $1,880.
