Bach Choir of Northeastern Pennsylvania forming
A new singing group known as The Bach Choir of Northeastern Pennsylvania, will be auditioning voices for membership on Sunday, March 7 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in St. John's Lutheran Church, 319 South Ave., Jim Thorpe.
Membership will be open to all interested singers from anywhere in Northeastern Pennsylvania who wish to audition.
The choir, which will be based in Jim Thorpe, has been founded and will be conducted by Randall Douglas Perry, a resident musician in Jim Thorpe for 30-plus years, and a member of the American Bach Society. Maestro Perry founded and also conducts the Bach and Handel Chorale.
The choir, consisting of no more than 20 auditioned voices, will be the only specialty choral group in Northeastern Pennsylvania to be solely devoted to singing the works of Johann Sebastian Bach.
Plans are under way to begin preparing for the first performance, which will include several choruses from cantatas, oratorios and masses by Bach.
Those who are interested in auditioning for the Northeastern Pennsylvania Bach Choir are asked to call (570) 325-9440 to schedule an audition. Interested applicants may also e-mail ibaroque@ptd.net.
