Newman named vice chairman in Towamensing

Towamensing Township supervisors, with the newly seated Tom Newman on the board, chose Penny Kleintop as the chairman. Newman is vice chair.

Spotts Stevens and McCoy will continue as sewage enforcement officer, with Carbon Engineering as the township engineer. Nanovic Law Offices will serve as solicitor.

Lora Nothstein was named secretary-treasurer, with Sandy Adamson as administrative assistant. Adamson will also serve as open records officer.

The Agility state program watchdog and vacancy board chairman is Richard Workman. Frey and Company will do the audit for 2009.

Roy Christman and George White were returned to the planning commission, with Jeremy Barbosa as the planning secretary. Jennie Cheng is the planning solicitor.

Christine Meinhart is the zoning officer and Don Bonett was returned to the board. An unpopular appointment was George Dydynsky as zoning solicitor. The source of the unpopularity was discussed in the regular meeting which followed reorganization.

Long-time roadmaster Rodney George continues in that position with Chris Beers as his assistant.

Three universal construction code inspectors were named. People can choose which of them they want to use: Jacob Troost, Carl Faust or David Shields.

Appointments to the recreation board were tabled until it can be determined who is on the board presently and what is needed at the fields.

Newman was named voting delegate to the state convention in Hershey on April 18. The secretary, office assistant, assistant road master and Phil Costenbader were all invited to attend but they should register if they plan to.

The emergency management coordinator is Gary Anthony with Newman serving as his deputy.

The secretary-treasurer and one supervisor will sign all checks. The mileage rate for use of a private car is 42.5 cents per mile.

Supervisors' meetings will be held the first Thursday at 7 p.m., the planning commission on the second Monday at 7 p.m., the historical commission on the second Wednesday at 7 p.m. and the recreation board on the third Wednesday, 7 p.m.
