Arrest made in Hometown crash
Rush Township police made an arrest of an intoxicated driver and apparent illegal immigrant following an accident on Dec. 30 at 11:15 p.m.
Adalberto Ramirez, 19, Tamaqua, was traveling north on SR309 in Hometown and struck a another vehicle, then continued into the Walmart parking lot. As officers arrived Ramirez was drinking a bottle of Corona and was visibly intoxicated.
Ramirez was taken to the state police barracks in Hazleton where Spanish speaking officers assisted. Ramirez did refuse a breath test and a detainer received from ICE and he was transported to Schuylkill County prison for detainment.
The suspect's vehicle had a cardboard state temporary plate, which was doctored by a marker and a piece of paper to show a different date. The vehicle identification number (VIN) number written on the tag did match the vehicle. The inspection sticker showed a different VIN number than the vehicle, police said.
In another incident, Michael Cole, 32, of Mahanoy City, is facing driving under the influence (DUI) and other summary charges after being stopped on Taggertsville Road on Jan. 1 at 12:51 a.m. Cole was taken back to the township police station for a breath test. The results of the test showed a .105 percent BAC.
Police are also investigating a stolen license plate from a vehicle on Jan. 4 at Walmart around 3:45 p.m. The license plate number is FXK2060.
