The Marian girls basketball team rolled to an easy victory over Mahanoy Area on Thursday.

Other local winners were the Northern Lehigh wrestlers and the Tamaqua boys swim team.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Mahanoy Area-Marian

Marian jumped out to a big first-quarter lead and cruised to a 58-21 Schuylkill League victory over Mahanoy Area.

The Fillies were paced by Kaysi McLaughlin, who netted a game-high 13 points, connecting on three triples in the process. Gillian Ferko just missed double digits with nine points for the Fillies, who improved to 6-2 overall and 3-1 in league play.

Pine Grove built a huge halftime lead and never looked back on its way to a 63-30 Schuylkill League victory over Panther Valley.

Kelly Fidler scored a game-high 21 points for Lady Cardinals.

The Panthers (2-4, 0-3) were lead by Dana McFadden's 10 points.

Pine Grove won the JV game, 47-27.

Kayla Bet scored 25 points and led Whitehall to a 61-44 non-league victory over Pleasant Valley.

The Lady Bears (2-6) were led by Kasey Meckes and Amber Chieffo, who finished with 17 and 10 points respectively.

Pleasant Valley won the JV game, 37-30.

Nativity started off strong and never looked back en route to a 53-25 Schuylkill League victory over Weatherly.

Kiely Chalkos paced the Golden Girls with 17 points.

Saranda Snyder and Nicole Calia led the Wreckers with eight points apiece.

In the JV game, Weatherly posted a 38-24 win. Alicia Panzarrella finished with 10 points for the Wreckers.

Northern Lehigh picked up seven pins and five forfeits on its way to a 77-5 non-league victory over William Allen.

After the first five Bulldogs won via a forfeit, Chris Christ (135), Dylan Hofmann (140), Craemer Hedash (152), Zach Flemming (160), Kyle Greenawald (171), Colin Hedash (189) and Brandon Loch (285) all picked up victories with a pin. Nikko Stevens (145) recorded a technical fall to add some additional bonus points for No. Lehigh.

Tamaqua-Pottsville

Tamaqua split in its Schuylkill League swimming meet with Pottsville.

The Blue Raiders won on the boys' side, 106-72. Dane DeWire and Ben Tuckett each won two events for the locals. DeWire won the 200 and 500 Freestyles, whereas Tuckett took first in the 200 IM and the 100 Backstroke.

Meanwhile, the girls fell 114-72. Sam Digilio (50 Free) and Chey Bates (100 Back) were the only ladies to win an event.

The boys improve to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in Schuylkill League action. The girls fall to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in the league.

Jim Thorpe edged Tamaqua, 37-35.

Drew Chartier had a team high 12 points for the Raiders.

Jno-Lewis had a game high 15 points for Jim Thorpe.

Tamaqua-Nativity

Nativity defeated Tamaqua, 47-26.

Derek Rottet had a team high eight points for the Raiders (3-6).

8th GRADE

ES South-Pleasant Vy.

Pleasant Valley easily defeated East Stroudsburg South, 53-12.

Dakota Neubert recorded a double-double for the Bears (2-2) as he scored 10 points and ripped down 13 rebounds. Marquis Brown also scored 10 points.

Tamaqua-Jim Thorpe

Tamaqua pulled out a 31-29 victory over Jim Thorpe. Jake Wenzel and Chris Hartung both had eight points for the Raiders (6-3).

Jno-Lewis led the Olympians with 15 points.

7TH GRADE

ES South-Pleasant Vy.

Pleasant Valley rolled to a 31-4 victory over East Stroudsburg South

Brian Joseph led the way for Pleasant Valley (3-1) with 10 points.
