Barna hits the 1,000-point mark

Weatherly's Keith Barna hit the 1,000-point mark for his career to highlight Friday's night's scholastic sports action.

There was one game postponed by Friday winter weather. The Marian at Mahanoy Area game will be played today at 1 p.m.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Nativity-Weatherly

Barna scored his 1,000th point at the 3:35 mark of the fourth quarter on a free throw and helped lead Weatherly to a 59-39 win over Nativity.

Barna finished with a game-high 23 points and also picked up five assists and five steals. Fellow Wrecker Nate Pfeiffer added 19, while Brandon Rowand chipped in 11. Rowand also had nine steals.

Nativity won the JV contest, 66-55.

Weatherly improves to 7-3 (2-2) on the year.

Panther Vy.-Pine Grove

Although Panther Valley was outscored 26-18 in the second half, the Panthers held on to defeat Pine Grove 45-44 in Colonial League action.

The Panthers were led by Brock Mitchell and his 15 points. Damian Lewis added nine in the winning effort.

Kyle Burke led the Cardinals with a game-high 17 points, with 15 of those points coming on five three-pointers.

Pleasant Valley-PM West

With the score tied at 39 heading into the fourth quarter, Keon Scott scored eight of West's 19 points and led the Panthers to a 58-47 victory over MVC foe Pleasant Valley.

Scott finished with 18 points for West (7-2, 3-1). Fellow Panther JaQuan Bryant added 13.

The Bears (4-5, 2-1) were paced by Mik Sharpe and his 18 points, including three three-pointers. Richie Irving was second on the team with nine points.

Erik Frans scored ten on his 12 points in the second half and led his Saucon Valley team to a 46-34 Colonial League victory over Palmerton.

Tyler Kravetz led the Bombers with 11 points. Teammate Christian Marcin chipped in with ten.

Palmerton did manage to win the JV game in double overtime, 52-47.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Palisades-Northern Lehigh

Northern Lehigh took Palisades behind the proverbial woodshed Friday night, as the Lady Bulldogs beat up on the Lady Pirates 47-17.

The Bulldogs held the Pirates scoreless in the first half while scoring 34 points of their own.

Aimee Oertner once again led the locals in scoring with 17 points. Teammate Sonya Josephson was close behind with 15.

Northern Lehigh won the JV game as well, 36-27.

Wilson used a 19-point third quarter to pull away from Colonial League foe Northwestern and went on to win by a score of 43-22.

The Lady Warriors were led by Kristin Spirko, who finished with 13 points.

Northwestern's leading scorer was Sara Jones with seven points.

Kesley Hay scored a game-high 21 points for Palmerton and led her fellow Bombers to a 53-49 Colonial League victory over Saucon Valley.

Kristen Romano and Casey Rinfret added 11 and 10 points respectively for Palmerton.

Meanwhile, no Saucon Valley player scored more than nine points.

Palmerton also won the JV game, 32-22.
