Driver injured in Monroe crash

A Monroe County woman was injured in a one-vehicle crash that occurred about 9:15 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 8, along Rolling Hills Road, in Ross Township. It was one of three crashes reported by state police at Lehighton.

Troopers said Sandra Kirby, 46, of Saylorsburg, was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo northbound when, for unknown reasons, she lost control of the car. The vehicle went onto the berm and struck a tree. Troopers said alcohol may have played a role in the crash.

Kirby was taken by ambulance to the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg, for treatment of injuries. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

Troopers probed a crash about 10:24 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 9, along Blue Mountain Road in Ross Township. Troopers said Jamie L. Nicholas, 21, of Easton, was westbound in a 2007 Volkswagen Rabbit when she failed to negotiate a left curve in the road with the car going onto the north berm. Nicholas attempted to correct her steering and this caused her to travel into the eastbound lane. The car then crossed back to the westbound lane and went onto the berm where it struck an embankment.

After impact with the embankment the car began to rotate clockwise before coming to rest in the westbound lane.

Nicholas and her passenger, Jared D. Sandt, 23, of Saylorsburg, were not injured. The car had to be towed from the scene.

Troopers cited Nicholas for driving on roadways laned for traffic.

A on-vehicle crash occurred about 10:05 p.m. on Jan. 7 along Mountain Road in Ross Township. Troopers said Bryan J. Baskar, 20, of Nazareth, was driving a 1994 Chevrolet Corsica westbound when he lost control while rounding a right curve. The car rotated clockwise and traveled northwest before going onto the north berm and striking a utility pole.

Baskar and passengers Joseph C. Rose, 19, of Pen Argyl, Raymond J. Blum, 18, of Wind Gap, and Shelby L. Odowd, 18, of Stockertown, were all not injured.

Troopers cited Baskar for driving too fast for conditions.
