Two drivers facing DUI in Monroe

Two drivers are facing charges of driving under the influence (DUI) following separate incidents in Monroe County.

Pocono Mountain Regional police said on Friday, Jan. 8, officers stopped a vehicle traveling northbound on SR611 for traffic violations. The driver was identified as Luz Cruz, 50, of Tobyhanna. Officers detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from her and a open container of alcohol was observed on the center console of the car. She failed field sobriety tests and was then placed under arrest for suspected DUI.

She was transported to the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg, for a blood test. The DUI charge is pending the test result.

On Saturday, Jan. 9, about 8:57 p.m. officers observed a vehicle parked along SR940 in Mt. Pocono. As police approached the driver began to pull away. A traffic stop was made and the driver was identified as Nestor Hernandez-Rogel, 37, of Long Pond. The odor of an alcoholic beverage was detected on Rogel and he failed field sobriety tests.

He was transported to PMC where he submtitted to a blood test. The DUI charge is pending the test results.
