Marian boys, No. Lehigh girls pick up wins
The Marian boys and Northern Lehigh girls both posted basketball victories on Tuesday.
In swimming action, the Tamaqua and Panther Valley girls picked up wins.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Marian-Schuylkill Haven
Drew Sherkness scored nine of his game-high 22 points in the fourth quarter to help Marian post a 64-55 Schuylkill League victory over Schuylkill Haven.
The Colts held a 30-25 lead at the half, but the Hurricanes scored the first five points of the third quarter to tie and keep things close until Marian pulled away down the stretch.
Backing up Sherkness for the Colts (8-3, 5-0) was Matt Yaich, who returned to the lineup after an injury to score 15 points and Chris Barletta who added 11.
The Hurricanes (5-5, 3-2) were led by Evan Marceau with 17.
Marian won the JV game, 61-54 as Paul Martin had 15 and Anthony Pilla 14.

Saucon Vy.-No. Lehigh
After taking a three-point lead in the first half, Saucon Valley held on to end Northern Lehigh's eight-game winning streak by a 40-38 score in Colonial League action.
Saucon Valley (5-5, 4-2) was led by Eric Frans, John Clark and Pat Kowalski all with eight points.
Nick Pappas had a game-high 15 points for the Bulldogs (9-3, 5-2) and Evan Biegley added 11.
The Bulldogs posted a 39-22 win in the JV game.

Palmerton didn't have an answer for Notre Dame's David Salerno, who scored 14 of his game-high 24 points in the first quarter and had five three-pointes on the night to lead his team to a 70-29 victory.
The Crusaders (10-2, 5-2) also had Adam Ambielli finish in double figures with 11.
Christian Marcin and Tyler Kravetz each had six to pace the Bombers (2-9, 0-7).
Palmerton pulled out a 41-36 win in the JV contest. Ben Andrews had 14 and Tyler Svetik 10 for the Bombers.

Zach Chesney had a game high 25 points for Lourdes hitting on five three-pointers.
Nathan Pfeiffer had 13 points and Keith Barna added 11 for the Wreckers (7-4, 2-3) .
Lourdes won the JV game, 48-29. Brett Stallone led Weatherly with 11 points.

Aimee Oertner scored 12 points in the first quarter to help Northern Lehigh jump out to an 18-2 lead en route to a 41-30 Colonial League win over Saucon Valley.
Oertner also scored nine points in the fourth quarter to help preserve the victory as she finished with a game-high 21 points.
Kelly Feher led the Panthers with nine points.
Saucon Valley won the JV game, 44-31.

Palmerton outscored the Crusaders 13-4 in the third quarter to pull within a point entering the fourth quarter, but couldn't hang on as Notre Dame grabbed a 44-36 Colonial League win.
The Bombers, playing without leading scorer and rebounder Kelsey Hay, were led by Casey Rinfret's 11 points. Kristen Romano added nine.
Alicia Bercier scored 14 points for the Crusaders (6-4).

SWIMMING
Tamaqua-Saucon Valley
The Tamaqua girls managed nine first place finishes and rolled to a 98-72 win over Saucon Valley, while the boys dropped a 97-73 decision to the Panthers.
Caroline Kanaskie, Chey Bates and Schuyler Schmidt all had double wins for the Lady Raiders. Dane DeWire and Calvin Troxell were individual winners for the boys, who also got a first place finish from the 200 freestyle relay team.

Shamokin-Panther Valley
The Lady Panthers managed to win every event and had an easy time swimming past the Indians by a 103-66 score. The Panther boys weren't as lucky as they dropped a 105-42 decision.
Lauren Cormier, Alexia Follweiler, Karoline Vavra and Brittany Erbe were all double winners for the Panthers and each were members of winning relay teams for the Lady Panthers.
Jason Gates was a double winner for the Panther boys and joined Omar Cabrerra, Michael Sloboda and Michael McCarroll on the winning 200 medley team.

Pleasant Vy.-Nazareth
Marquis Brown's steal and lay-up with six seconds left gave Pleasant Valley a 35-34 victory over Nazareth.
Brown finished with six points and 16 rebounds. Jon Weaver led the Bears in scoring with 13 points.
