Schuylkill crashes
State police at Schuylkill Haven reported investigating three automobile crashes, including a hit and run, along Schuylkill County roadways on Wednesday, Jan. 13.
The first crash occurred about 5:25 p.m. along SR61 in West Brunswick Township. Troopers said Henry E. Reber, 48, of Schuylkill Haven, was northbound in a 1993 Nissan Maxima in the left lane while Matthew B. Laubenstine, 22, of Orwigsburg, driving a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am, also northbound in the front of Reber. The vehicle immediately behind Laubenstine, and in front of Reber, moved into the right lane. Reber was unable to stop or move his vehicle to the right. His vehicle hit Laubenstine's in the rear, troopers added. Both drivers sustained minor injuries but did not require further medical treatment.
Troopers cited Reber for driving a vehicle at an (un) safe speed.
The second crash was reported at 6:26 p.m. also along SR61, at N. Greenview Rd., in North Manheim Township. Troopers said Sheila D. McDonnell, 40, of Orwigsburg, was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer northbound when a deer entered the road in front of her. She attempted to avoid striking the deer but could not. The front end struck the deer killing it and causing moderate damages to the vehicle.
McDonnell and her 14-year-old female passenger were not injured.
The third crash was the hit and run and was reported at 10:18 p.m. at 714 Sixth St., in Norwegian Township. Troopers said a white van truck pulled into the driveway of the property of Michael Buchinsky, of Port Carbon, to make a U-turn. The van struck the railing and steps to the front deck of the home. The driver then fled the scene.
The van had an orange colored ladder on the roof.
