The driver involved in a one-vehicle crash about 3:59 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 13, in Penn Forest Township, Carbon County, has been identified by state police at Fern Ridge.

Troopers said Rita Russo-Cammock, 45, of Albrightsville, was the driver of a 1998 Dodge Durango that crashed along Old Stage Road in Mt. Pocahontas Estates. A photo of the accident scene appeared on page 6 of Thursday's TIMES NEWS.

Troopers said Cammock was westbound and failed to maintain control of the vehicle and moved from the left to right lane. The vehicle went onto the berm and struck shrubbery.

After impact with the shrubbery the vehicle continued to travel west for about 38 feet and struck more shrubbery on the south side. The Durango then continued in a southerly direction about 41 feet before striking a tree with its passenger front end. The vehicle overturned onto its passenger side and came to rest.

Cammock was flown by medevac helicopter to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, for treatment of what troopers' call severe injuries. Assisting troopers at the scene were Lehighton ambulance personnel and volunteers from the Penn Forest Fire Company.

Troopers said she will be cited for driving a vehicle at an (un) safe speed.
