Thorpe, NW boys win; Nolehi girls triumph

Jim Thorpe and Northwestern Lehigh grabbed boys basketball wins, while Northern Lehigh remained unbeaten on the girls front on Friday night.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Jim Thorpe-Pottsville

Jim Thorpe picked up a big win as the Olympians knocked off Pottsville 59-47.

Rashid Epps led the Olympians (9-2, 4-1) with 23 points. Teammate Sam Lux added 18.

Epps, along with Corey Cinicola, combined to score 11 points in the fourth quarter to help the Olympians pull away.

Pottsville managed to win the JV contest, 57-42.

Pocono Mt. West-Lehighton

Tynell Fortune scored 21 points and led the Panthers to a 84-34 rout over Lehighton in MVC play.

Alex Matika led the Indians with eight points. DJ Rossino added seven.

Pocono Mt. West also won the JV game, 59-18.

Northern Lehigh-Notre Dame GP

The Crusaders (12-2, 6-2) took a 12-point lead into the final quarter and went on to hand the Bulldogs (9-4, 5-3) a 76-67 Colonial League setback.

Joe Giangiobbe had 23 points, Adam Ambielli had 19 points and Andrew Kohler added 12 in the win.

Jordan Waylen led the Bulldogs with 17 points, Even Biegley added 14 and Bobby Hahn and Nick Pappas 12 apiece in the loss.

Northwestern-Salisbury

The Tigers outscored the Falcons 14-4 in the third quarter and held on forf a 44-36 Colonial League triumph.

Trevor German led the Tigers (6-7, 3-5) with 12 points, while Kevin Oxley and Ryan Betz added 10 apiece. Jake Kovach was the lone Salisbury (6-5, 3-5) player in double figures with 11.

Wilson held Palmerton to eight points or less in every quarter and went on to win by a score of 61-30.

Kowan Scott (12), Drew Parr (11) and Ryan Spriko (10) each scored in double figures for the Warriors.

Palmerton (2-10) was led by Tyler Kravetz with nine points.

Pocono Mt. East scored 27 points in the third quarter and went on to beat Pleasant Valley, 78-47 in MVC action.

The Cardinals' Kyheim Hall scored 14 of his game-high 24 points in the that third frame.

Allen Conklin paced the Bears with 13 points, including two three-pointers.

The Blue Raiders matched the Cardinals in the first quarter, but trailed by 12 at the half and wound up losing by a 67-52 score in Schuylkill League play.

Kyle Burke had a game-high 27 points for Pine Grove going 10-for-10 in the final eight minutes from the foul line. Michael Taylor was the lone Raider to hit double figures finishing with 25 points.

Jordyn Homyak once again led the Indians in scoring as she finished with a game-high 18 points.
