Concourse Club names Guiding Star

The Concourse Club of Palmerton will honor five Guiding Stars from the Palmerton Area School District.

The Guiding Stars are chosen by a committee of teachers and staff from the Palmerton Area School District. A Guiding Star must be a female, in the top 25 percent of the senior class, and actively involved in school and community activities.

Each honoree will receive a certificate and Guiding Star charm, and one will receive a $500 scholarship in May.

The January Guiding Star is Sara Elizabeth Smiley, daughter of David and Patricia Smiley. Her hobbies include softball, dancing and bowling. School activities include Leo Club, Student Council, softball, National Honor Society, and Future Leaders of America. One of her community activities includes being an altar server at church.

Sara will attend a four-year college after graduation and plans to major in nursing with a minor in psychology.
