Palmerton has a celebrity in its ranks. When Navy Lt. Robert Goodman was released from captivity in Syria, it was Capt. William Schell, formerely of Palmerton, who piloted the plane that brought him back to the United States. Bill is a navy career man and is married ot the former Jean Snyder, daughter of the late Ralph and Edithy (Mooney) Snyder, who owned an operated a grocery store on Delaware Avenue. The Schells live in Florida.
