Icy roads cause Schuylkill crashes
Icy road conditions were blamed for two crashes along a Schuylkill County road on Sunday. State police at Schuylkill Haven said the crashes occurred along E. Second Mountain Road, in North Manheim Township.
About 11:29 a.m. Rebecca L. Morgan, 24, of Schuylkill Haven, was driving a 2000 Buick Century eastbound when she applied her brakes to go around a bend in the road. The car began to fishtail due to icy conditions and went off the road and down an embankment in the area of 299 E. Second Mountain Rd. The car struck a tree and then rolled over onto its roof.
Morgan and her 2-year-old male passenger in a child safety seat were not injured.
The second crash occurred about 12:35 p.m. as Brianna L. Anderson, 22, of Schuylkill Haven, was driving a 2005 Jeep Liberty eastbound and attempted to slow down for a vehicle in front of her. The Jeep began to slide on the icy road and crossed the center line. It slid off the road and down an embankment in the area of 285 E. Second Mountain Rd. The Jeep came to rest with the passenger side resting against a tree.
Anderson had to be removed from the vehicle by rescue personnel but was not injured.
