'Black ice' blamed for Monroe crash

"Black ice" was blamed for a two vehicle crash that occurred in Monroe County on Sunday, Jan. 24, about 11:53 a.m. in which two persons were injured. Pocono Mountain Regional police reported on that crash and a hit and run mishap.

Officers were dispatched to SR115 and Effort Moutanin at the time and date stated. Upon arrival officers learned a Chevrolet Suburban driven by Terrance Glower, 28, of Albrightsville, collided with a Hyundai operated by Victoria Lipton, 63, of Albrightsville. Police said the roadway was covered with black ice and led to the accident.

Both drivers were injured. Lipton had to be freed from her vehicle by West End Fire Company personnel and she and Glower were transported to the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg, by West End ambulance.

The investigation into the crash is continuing.

On Jan. 21 about 7:07 a.m. officers were dispatched to a hit and run along SR940 at the Five Point intersection in Mt. Pocono. Upon arrival officers were told by Mary Kinney, of Mt. Pocono, that she was eastbound on 115 when a vehicle southbound on SR611 made a wide turn onto 115 and struck her vehicle. The other driver continued on without stopping.

The hit and run vehicle was described as a tan or gold color sports utility vehicle.
