Senior news

The Tamaqua Senior Citizens group meets every Thursday, at 1 p.m., at the Tamaqua Community Center, located to the rear of Boyer's Food Mart.

Last week's meeting was attended by 76 members. President Jean Machamer conducted the business session.

Eleanor Roberts offered the invocation, entitled "No Matter What the Day Brings." Three new members were welcomed, Pat and Joseph Bednarik and Norma Baker.

Vice President Doris Brobst reported sending get well cards to Frances Koch and Theresa Reed. The January monthly birthday party will be held during this week's meeting.

Readings were offered by Jean Machamer, who also suggested sponsoring bus trips. Details of a fundraiser, to be sponsored by the West Penn Ambulance Association, were discussed.

Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The meeting room is handicap accessible.

St. Peter's

The Rev. Rodney Wells will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. The service will include special music presented by the Cherub Choir. Sunday school classes will meet at 10:15 a.m.

Activities for next week will include: Monday, Cadette Girl Scouts meet at 6 p.m.; Thursday, Prayer group meets at 5 p.m. and Brownies meet at 6:30 p.m.

The choirs rehearse on Thursday. Next week's schedule will include: Cherubs at 6:30 p.m., Junior Choir at 7 p.m. and Senior Choir at 7:45 p.m.

Bethany EC

The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Nursery care is available.

Sunday school classes will meet at 9:30 a.m.

Also on Sunday, the Ministry Council Commission will meet at 11:45 a.m.

Activities for next week include: Tuesday, Prayer Time at 8:30 a.m. and GriefShare at 1:30 p.m.; Wednesday, Tamaqua Youth Ministry at 6:30 p.m., adult Bible study at 6:30 p.m.; Friday, Couple's Bible study at 7 p.m.; Saturday, Reading Camp begins at 10 a.m. and Arcadia Hospice training will be held from 6-9 p.m.

Class of 2010

Parents of the Tamaqua Class of 2010 will meet Feb. 4, at 7 p.m., in the senior high school cafeteria.

Parents of all class members are welcome to attend and help plan for the annual All Night party.

Fifth grade parents

Parents of fifth-grade students in the Tamaqua Elementary School will meet Feb. 8, at 6 p.m., to discuss plans for the upcoming party.

The meeting will be held in the school library.
