Adult day care

The Tamaqua Area Adult Day Care Center is seeking volunteers to serve on its board of directors. The board meets one evening per month. Anyone interested in serving on the board of directors may call (570) 668-6556.

Activities planned for the month of January include: Feb. 3, bingo; Feb. 9, church service; Feb. 10, craft day; Feb. 11, guest speaker from Independent Living Services; Feb. 12, Valentine's Day celebration; Feb. 16, Mardi Gras celebration; Feb. 16, cooking class; Feb. 19, visit with St. Jerome's kindergarten class; Feb. 22, sing-along with Audrey Christ; Feb. 24, monthly birthday party.

In addition to weekly sing-alongs and social games, hairstyling and manicure services are available. Both require advance notice.

Daily activities include exercise, reality orientation, remotivational and reminiscent therapy, as well as breakfast, lunch and a snack.

Calvary Methodist

The Rev. Brian Reading will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. service this Sunday in Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley.

Also on Sunday, a time of evening praise and Bible study will begin at 6:30 p.m. This will include an in-depth discussion of the morning sermon.

An evening prayer and share service is held Wednesdays at 7 p.m.

Souper Bowl Sunday will be held Feb. 7. Members of the congregation will donate canned goods which will be shared with those in need.

SS. Peter and Paul

First Friday will be observed next week in SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Confessions will be heard at 7:30 a.m., followed by Mass and devotions at 8 a.m. Communion calls will be begin at 9 a.m., with the exception of parishioners in Coaldale and Hometown. Communion calls to those areas will be made on Thursday, Feb. 4.

Fatima Saturday will be celebrated on Feb. 6. Confessions will be heard at 7:30 a.m., followed by a recitation of the Rosary and devotions prior to the 8 a.m. Mass.

Rosary Sunday will be observed on Feb. 7. Members of the parish Holy Rosary Society will attend the 8 a.m. Mass and receive Holy Communion as a group. A recitation of the Rosary will be held prior to the Mass.
