Casting Kids event at Show

Published January 30. 2010 09:00AM

A chance to advance to the statewide Casting Kids Championship and win cash and prizes will be at stake when the Capital City Bassmasters conducts its 16th annual Casting Kids Event, Sunday, Feb. 7, at the Eastern Sports and Outdoor at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex, Harrisburg.

Competition will be held for age groups 7-10, 11-13 and 14-17 in the seminar area located off of the Main Exhibition Hall next to the Chevrolet truck display. This year's event is sponsored by the Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show, and the age groups have been modified to allow more youth to participate.

Casting Kids is designed to help teach children the fundamentals casting techniques of casting, pitching and flipping. It was modeled after the NFL's Punt, Pass and Kick program and has proven to be a great way to get children interested in fishing.

Two Casting Kids sessions will be held, with the first beginning at 10 a.m. and is followed at noon by the eighth annual "Celebrity Cast-off Competition" between media and sports personalities, who will compete for a $1,000 donation to the charity of the winner's choice. At 2 p.m., the second Casting Kids session will be held, and every competitor in the morning and afternoon session will receive a prize package donated by vendors at the show.

For information on the Casting Kids event, call Capital City Bassmaster vice president and public relation director Bob Herman at 717-938-8752 or e-mail him at unclebuck875@frontier.com.
