Steps to recovery
Dear Editor:
In these dire economic times I think it is about time for our legislators to take the first steps in some type of recovery. I recommend the following.
First, the elimination of per diem for all meals during a normal workday. Let their wives pack them a brown bag lunch or pay the tab at a local restaurant. Just like we do.
Second, the elimination of all automobile allowances. Except for the recovery of mileage costs, let them buy their automobiles just like we do.
Third, the elimination of their very costly health plans. Get a regular cost effective health care plan and contribute towards its cost. Just like we do.
Fourth, a giant overhaul of their very generous, too generous, retirement plan. Maybe, 10 years in office before you come qualified.
Now, a quick comment on a new subject. Let's get our state out of interfering in what should be private business. That is, the purchasing, the warehousing, and the retailing of wines and spirits. The LCB should only administer the laws of the state. Not retailing. This alone would open up many new small business opportunities, create many new jobs, offer better selections to customers with a greater variety, and probably generate greater tax revenue.
Thank you
