Summer lunch

The South Ward Playground Association is conducting a free summer lunch program for all local children up to and including the age of 18. Lunches are served weekdays, from noon to 1 p.m., at the South Ward Playground.

The program is an off shoot of the free school lunch program, with funding provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The non-discriminatory program is open to all children regardless of race, origin, religion, etc. In addition to a healthy lunch, participants will be offered a variety of summer activities.

The playground is located between Penn and Race streets in Tamaqua's South Ward.

Recovery help

"Celebrate Recovery" sessions are held every Friday, 7-9 p.m., at New Life Assembly of God Church, 407 Schuylkill Ave. Anyone who needs help recovering is welcome to attend.

Calvary UM

Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church will begin holdings its services and events at the Lewistown Valley Tabernacle, 614 Valley Rd. The Rev. Brian Reading will officiate at this Sunday's 10:25 a.m. worship service. Nursery care is available. The service will include special patriotic music. Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m.

Also Sunday, in lieu of evening prayer services, members will be attending the Auburn Camp Meeting, at 6 p.m., at 627 S. Third St., Auburn.

Next Wednesday, there will be an evening of prayer and sharing, beginning at 7 p.m.

St. John UCC

The Rev. Kevin Duffy Guy will officiate at the 9:30 a.m. service this Sunday in St. John United Church of Christ.

Nursery service is available during the service.

The weekly service is broadcast on radio station WLSH, AM1410, at 11:30 a.m. Sundays.

Tamaqua Zion Lutheran

The annual congregational picnic of Zion Lutheran Church in Tamaqua is scheduled for Sunday, July 18 at the Bungalow Park Pavilion in Tamaqua.

An outdoor service begins at 10:30 a.m. The picnic follows the service.

Members of the congregation, their friends and neighbors are invited.

A sign up sheet is posted in the church's gathering room.

Members can also call the church office at (570) 668-2180 and tell how many family members are coming and what picnic item the family will bring.

Members are urged to sign up by July 14.
