Results of holiday DUI checkpoints
The North Central Pa. Regional Sobriety Checkpoint DUI Taskforce and Expanded DUI/Underage Drinking Enforcement Program has released the following statistics from a sobriety checkpoint and roving patrols held in Schuylkill County during the holiday weekend.
The check point was set up on July 2 and officers contacted a total of 1,184 vehicles. Of the 28 motorists detained, six operators were tested, with four arrested, for DUI. Officers also issued one seat belt and 12 traffic citations, made 11 criminal arrests and issued nine warnings. Seven county law enforcement agencies were represented by 14 officers.
Roving DUI patrols were conducted on July 3 and 4.
On July 3, officers from five departments contacted and detained 46 drivers. Six operators were tested, with three arrested for DUI. Officers also issued 10 traffic citations and issued 35 warnings.
Five departments also participated in the July 4 patrol, contacting and detaining 53 drivers. Five operators were tested, but there were no DUI related arrests. Seven traffic citations and 47 warnings were issued.
Roving patrols and sobriety checkpoints will also be conducted through July 11 on state routes 61, 183, 901, 209, 309, 443, 895, 125, 25, 924 and 54.

The sobriety checkpoints and Roving DUI patrols are funded through the state Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
