Summit Hill man charged in Lansford
Scott Fairweather, 32, of 221 E. Richards St., Summit Hill, faces charges from an incident which took place on Dec. 19, 2009 at Bertsch and Tunnel streets, Lansford. Officer Jeffrey Ohl charged Fairweather with two counts of Driving Under the Influence and failing to obey stop signs and yield signs.
According to an affidavit of probable cause: Ohl was on duty at about 4 a.m. and was traveling east on W. Bertsch Street when he saw a blue pickup truck exit the Turkey Hill parking lot and speed east on Bertsch Street. The truck went through the Tunnel Street intersection without stopping at the stop sign and turned right onto Route 902, still speeding.
Ohl stopped the truck and talked to the driver, identified as Fairweather. He detected a strong odor of alcohol and noted that Fairweather's eyes were red and glassy. He asked Fairweather if he had consumed any alcoholic beverages, and he replied that he had "had a few earlier."
Fairweather failed field sobriety tests and was arrested for DUI. A blood-alcohol test at St. Luke's Miners memorial Hospital, Coaldale, revealed his blood alcohol concentration to be 0.19 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is the threshold for drunken driving.
