Board of Health
The July meeting of the Tamaqua Board of Health was held at the municipal building with Randolph Gormley, Earl Boettger, Shirley Becker and Health Enforcement Officer James Barron in attendance.
Barron provided his monthly report, noting he made general inspections at the Bungalow and South Ward Playground concession stands, as well as spot check inspections at the Tamaqua Diner, the Chili Dog, the Tamaqua Area Adult Day Care Center, Sisters Mexican Cantina and Restaurant, Our Family Mini Mart and Pieracini's Market. He also received and adjusted 12 complaints: 11 for trash/garbage and one home unfit for human habitation.
There were no cases of reportable disease for the month of June.
Senior news
The Tamaqua Senior Citizens Group met last week with 73 members in attendance. The business session was conducted by President Jean Machamer, who also provided readings later in the meeting.
Eleanor Roberts offered an invocation entitled "God's Love." Secretary Eleanor Schmerfeld provided her weekly report.
Tony Deleon of Independent Living Services was a guest speaker and promised to return in August.
Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The meeting room is handicapped accessible and is located in the Tamaqua Community, to the rear of Boyer's Food Market.
High school parking
Student parking at the Tamaqua Area Senior High School will once again be by permit only. Applications for parking permits are now available in the high school office, Mondays through Thursdays, between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. Forms must be completed and returned no later than July 27.
A total of 69 parking spaces will be available and will be assigned by lottery, which will be held on July 28. Permits will then be issued on Aug. 2, in the senior high office, between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Students who receive parking permits will be subject to the district's drug testing policy.
Bethany EC
The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. service this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Nursery care is provided. Sunday school for all ages is held at 9:30 a.m.
Also on Sunday, a service will be held at 2:30 p.m., at the Hometown Nursing Center.
Activities for next week will include: Tuesday, prayer time at 8:30 a.m., Playground Pals at 11:30 a.m. and GriefShare at 1:30 p.m.; Wednesday, Waterside Whistle Stop at 2:30 p.m.
Vacation Bible School will be held July 19 through July 23. Registration will be held daily at 5:30 p.m., with sessions slated to begin at 6 p.m.
Breiner's school
A general reunion is being planned for students who attended the former Breiner's Number 2 School in the Lewistown Valley. The event will be held Aug. 14, at the school, located on Valley Road.
Deadline for reservations will be July 30.

St. Peter's Union
The Rev. Rodney Wells will officiate at the 9 a.m. contemporary service this Sunday in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. The service will include the reception of new members. Sunday school classes meet at 10:15 a.m.
Activities for next week will include: Monday, Youth Group trip to Camel Beach.
Vacation Bible School will be held from July 19 through July 23, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The VBS closing program will be held July 25, during the Sunday worship service, which will be held at 10 a.m. at the West Penn Park.
