West End Fair stand

Salem St. Paul's Lutheran Church is creating the work schedule for this year's West End Fair stand, and is in need of volunteers.

You must be at least 13 years old to work in the stand. If you are able to sign up for more than one shift, that would be great. The schedule is posted on the community bulletin board. Volunteers will receive a free fair entry ticket for the day they are scheduled to work, plus a free meal. There are three shifts daily from Aug. 22 through Aug. 28 with at least five to six volunteers needed per shift.

It is helpful to have a man on each shift to help with lifting the filling pans.

Captains are needed to oversee operation of the morning, afternoon and evening shifts. The captain would man the stove, heating the filling and barbecue, making gravy, etc., as needed. The captain would also supervise closing down the stand at night. A job description is available for captains.

Volunteers are needed to serve the food and one person is needed to collect the money. The stand must be kept open until 11 p.m. per fair regulations with the exception of Sunday when you can close at 10 p.m.

See Pat Held for questions regarding the work schedule. Call Held at (610) 767-5641 for more information.

Church youth group

Salem St. Paul's Lutheran Church youth group has reached its goal. Sixteen young people and five adults are on their way to Cherokee, N.C. to erect a building for a Native American community. They left on July 10 and will return on July 17.
