A Berks County driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) following a one-vehicle crash in Schuylkill County.

State police at Frackville said Derek A. Shenk, 21, of Blandon, was driving a 1993 Saturn coupe northbound on Hawk Mountain Road, in the area of Rock Glen Road, in Drehersville, East Brunswick Township, about 6:05 a.m. on Sunday, July 25, when he lost control while negotiating a left hand curve.

The car slid out-of-control and struck a tree along the berm. Shenk was injured and taken to the Schuylkill Medical Center, S. Jackson St., Pottsville, by New Ringgold ambulance. He was also found to be under the influence and consented to a blood test, troopers said. The DUI charge is pending the test results.
