Driver facing DUI after Monroe crash

Published July 27. 2010 05:00PM

A driver involved in a crash along Meixell Valley Road in Ross Township, Monroe County, about 8:40 p.m. on Friday, July 23, is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI).

State police at Lehighton said John D. Crilley Jr., 28, of Effort, was westbound in a 2004 Saturn Ion when the vehicle went onto the northern edge causing him to lose control. Crilley over-corrected his steering, troopers said, with the car crossing the eastbound lane before striking a mailbox. The vehicle continued on the southern edge and struck trees before coming to rest.

Crilley was not injured. He failed field sobriety tests and was taken to the Palmerton hospital for a blood test. The DUI charge is pending the test results, troopers added.
