Monroe trucker dies in I80 crash

A Monroe County truck driver died in a crash along Interstate 80 in Luzerne County. State police at Hazleton said the crash occurred in Butler Township about 8:20 a.m. on Tuesday.

Troopers said Mark A. Lockwitch, 53, of Blakeslee, was operating a tanker truck westbound near the intersection with I81 when the rig left the road and into the median where it struck several trees. The fuel tanks separated from the truck upon impact and caught fire. Local fire companies extinguished the blaze.

Lockwitch was pronounced dead at the scene.
