Durham tops 'Pigs with a two-run 8th
The Durham Bulls erased a one-run deficit with two runs in the eighth inning on only one hit as they beat the IronPigs 3-2 for the second straight night at Coca-Cola Park.
Lefthander Mike Zagurski entered in the eighth and walked both lefties, Dan Johnson and Chris Richard, in the Durham lineup to lead off the frame. Joe Dillon then laid down a perfect bunt up the third base line for the only hit of the inning to load the bases. Another walk to Dioner Navarro spelled the end of the night for Zagurski as the Bulls pulled even at two.
Former IronPigs infielder J.J. Furmaniak followed with a 6-4-3 double play grounder against righthander Michael Schwimer allowing Richard to score the game-winning run.
Andy Tracy broke out the big stick with a long home run to right on a 3-0 delivery from starter Brian Baker in the fourth. The home run came right after John Mayberry Jr. was thrown out trying to steal second base.
Melvin Dorta made his presence felt in his first game back in the IronPigs lineup since July 11 adding a run with a solo home run in the fifth inning putting the 'Pigs in front 2-0.
The IronPigs offense couldn't muster much more as they collected just three other hits and were only 0-for-2 with runners in scoring position.
Starter Brandon Duckworth turned in six strong innings for the IronPigs, yielding just one run on seven hits, three walks and four strikeouts. The 2001 IL MVP hasn't allowed more than two runs in a start since June 24 - a span of five starts.
