R.R. Frey's, Service Elec. reach ESRC championship

The championship for the 2010 Eastern Schuylkill Recreation Commission's summer basketball league is set for Friday, July 30 at 7:00 p.m. at the North and Middle Ward Playground. Defending 2009 summer champions R.R. Frey Services will face reigning 2010 winter champs Service Electric. The match-up marks the third consecutive time the two teams have played for an ESRC basketball championship.

Wednesday, July 30

R.R. Frey Services-Cuz-N-Joe's Place

R.R. Frey Services used a six point half-time lead to hold on and defeat Cuz-N-Joe's Place 59-48 for a chance at their second straight summer basketball championship. Jim Barron had a game-high 15 points for the winners, and Ryan Achenbach and Jason Derr each scored nine points.

Jon Veet led Cuz-N-Joe's Place with 14 points, and Nolan Sword was close behind with 12 points.

Service Electric-Guerilla Squad

Service Electric jumped out to a 19 point half-time lead over Guerilla Squad on their way to a 61-49 victory. This is Service Electric's fourth straight appearance in the summer championship. Joe Schaeffer and Jeff Peel each scored a game-high 20 points, and the pair combined for 10 three-pointers. Ron Abdo chipped in with 12 points.

Dave Wilson led Guerilla Squad with 18 points, and Derrick McFarland scored 13 points in the loss.
