First Steps

First Steps, a support group for mothers, will have its monthly meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 3, at the Primitive Methodist Church, 55 Hunter St., Tamaqua. The meeting will be held in the church social room from 6-8 p.m.

Participants will share a hot meal and discover fun exercises for children.

The sessions are free and open to the public. Child care for all ages will be provided free of charge. New members and volunteers are welcome.

SAL programs

The Tamaqua Salvation Army has a number of programs and activities scheduled over the next few weeks.

Vacation Bible School is scheduled for the week of Aug. 2. There is no charge for the VBS, which will be held daily from 4-6 p.m. This year's theme will be "Rainforest." Sessions are open to all children between the ages of 6 and 12. To register, call (570) 668-0410.

A free "Back to School" Camp, for children 6 to 12, will be held Aug. 9-13, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Elite Generation Wrestling will present its anniversary show on July 24 at the Salvation Army, 105 W. Broad St. A luncheon ceremony will be held at 1 p.m., with the show scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.

Continuing programs include: Coffee Cafe, Mondays,10 a.m. to noon; Needlebug Sewing and Quilting Club, Mondays, 10 a.m. to noon; Older and Bolder, Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to noon.

Fall computer classes for beginners will begin Aug. 23.

AARP Driver's Training classes will be held Sept. 23 and Sept. 24, from 2-4 p.m.

Worship services are held Sundays at 11 a.m., with Sunday school classes at 10 a.m. Men's and Women's ministries meet Tuesdays at 6 p.m.

Recovery help

"Celebrate Recovery" sessions are held every Friday, 7-9 p.m., at New Life Assembly of God Church, 407 Schuylkill Ave. Anyone who needs help recovering is welcome to attend.

Zion Lewistown

The Rev. Sunny Stock will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Zion Church in the Lewistown Valley. Sunday school classes will be held at 9:30 a.m.

St. John's Lutheran

The Rev. P. Hinkle will officiate at the 9:15 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. The service will include Holy Communion. A chime meeting will be held following the service.

Activities for next week will include: Monday, Learning Ministry Committee meeting at 6:30 p.m.; Thursday, Constitution Committee meeting at 1 p.m.; Saturday, Synof Office meeting at 9 a.m.

St. Peter's Union

The Rev. Rodney Wells will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. The service will include Holy Communion. Sunday school classes meet at 10:15 a.m.

Primitive Methodist

The Rev. Rodney Hall will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Primitive Methodist Church. A children's sermon will be included.

Sunday school for all ages begins at 9:30 a.m.
