Lions board
The board of directors of the Western Pocono Lions Club will meet at 7 p.m., Wednesday, June 2, at the Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville. All Lions are welcome to attend this business session of the club.
At the next regular club meeting, on June 16, the Lion of the Year will be honored and the upcoming program year officers will be installed.
Lioness gift
The Western Pocono Lioness Club presented a check for $200 to Operation: Touch of Home, to help the expense of all the items that group sends to the area's local service personnel in Iraq and Afghanistan.
During the meeting, a new club member, Camille DeSando was installed.
Birthday celebrants
Special Happy Birthday wishes to Bud Kresge in Brodheadsville on June 4. He will be 93 years young. Summer schedule
Zion United Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville will begin its summer worship schedule this week end. The Saturday evening service will be held at 5 p.m., Saturday, June 5, and thereafter June through August.
The Sunday summer worship schedule begins Sunday June 6, with services at 8 a.m. and 9:30 a.m., Sunday School will be in recess for the summer.
Relay for Life
The West End Rotary Club, as well as many other groups, will be involved in the West End Relay for Life, which is taking place June 5-6. On June 7 the service club will hold its board meeting.
Low Vision Demonstration
The Monroe County Council of the Blind is holding a Low Vision Demonstration on June 12 at Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg, from 10 a.m. to noon and again from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Brodhead Room. For more information call (570) 421-4118.
Confirmation held
Effort UMC held its Confirmation Pentecost Sunday. Seventeen youth were part of the 2009/2010 Confirmation Class.

Women's Resources of Monroe County has announced a change in the National Domestic Violence Hotline. It is now 1-800-799-SAFE (7233) for 24-hour hot line services. The local hot line number is (570) 420-4200.
Weatherization possibility
At a recent meeting of the Monroe County Interagency Council, a spokesperson announced that the Monroe County Redevelopment Authority is looking for clients to have homes weatherized. Persons must have an income to the 200 percent poverty guide income level. For a family of four that would be $44,100.
