Tamaqua woman nabbed on warrant

A Tamaqua woman was arrested by borough police on May 26 on an outstanding warrant.

At 12:58 a.m. police were dispatched to 305 Race Street for an unwanted person. The caller reported that Christine Ritter, last known address of West Broad Street, was in the house and was intoxicated and was causing a problem. Upon arriving at the residence police found the front doors fully opened and Ritter was seen inside the door falling over. At that point, Ritter, knowing about the outstanding warrant, attempted to flee out the back door, but it was locked.

The officer grabbed Ritter but she resisted attempts to get her cuffed. She was finally brought under control, cuffed and escorted from the house.

When placed in the back of the police car she began to bang her head on the window and cage and the officer placed a seat belt on her. Ritter managed to take a cuff off and banged it on the window in an attempt to break the glass.

At 2:31 a.m. Ritter was taken in front of District Judge Stephen Bayer, of Tamaqua, on the warrant. Bail was set at $50,000 straight.

Ritter was transported to the county prison in Pottsville. At the prison, officers had a hard time removing one of Ritter's cuffs. She admitted to attempting to get out of them on the way to the prison. The cuff needed to be removed by boltcutters from the prison fire department. She was also charged with criminal mischief.
