Vehicle stop leads to arrest of two

A vehicle stop by members of the Pocono Mountain Regional police has led to the arrest of the driver and passenger on several charges.

Officers stopped a vehicle about 12:27 a.m. on Tuesday, June 1, along SR611 at Hemlock Rd., in Tobyhanna, Coolbaugh Township, for vehicle code violations.

The driver was identified as Darryl Richardson, 38, of Tobyhanna. Richardson provided an expired Virginia license. The front seat passenger identified himself as Michael Harris. A check on Harris revealed no record.

Richardson consented to a search of his person. Found was marijuana, crack cocaine and $370 in cash. A search of the vehicle was then conducted and found was a loaded handgun, additional bags of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Both were then taken into custody.

Harris was taken to the state police barracks at Swiftwater for a fingerprint scan to determine his identity. Harris was identified as Michael Garvin, 26, of Staten Island, N.Y. A check revealed that Garvin had an arrest warrant out of New York for a parole violation.

Richardson was charged with possession with intent to deliver, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, persons not to possess firearms, carrying a firearm without a license, driving with a suspended license and roadways laned for traffic. Garvin was placed under arrest for false identification to law enforcement and arrest prior to requisition.

Both were placed in the county prison in Snydersville pending arraignment on the charges, police said.
