Board of Health

The June meeting of the Tamaqua Board of Health was held at the municipal building with Randolph Gormley, Earl Boettger, Shirley Becker, Health Officer Judith Hadesty R.N. and Health Enforcement Officer James Barron in attendance.

Barron provided his monthly report, noting he made spot check inspections at Burger King, Domino's Pizza, Padora's Six Pack House, Trinity church kitchen, SS. Peter and Paul's kitchen, and Hess Express. He also received and adjusted for complaints: three trash and one home unfit for human habitation.

There were no cases of reportable disease for the month of May.

St. John Lutheran

The Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at the 9:15 a.m. service this Sunday in St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Also on Sunday, an ice cream social will be held at 5:30 p.m., followed by a Bell Choir Concert at 7 p.m.

Activities for next week will include: Monday, church council meeting at 7 p.m.; Tuesday, combined meeting of anniversary committee and Worship and Music Committee at 6:30 p.m., Cemetery Committee meeting at 7 p.m.; Thursday, Quiet Communion at 1:30 p.m., Property Committee meeting at 7 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, Synod Assembly.

St. Peter's Union

The Rev. Rodney Wells will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. The service will include a Joyous Noise Offering. Sunday school classes meet at 10:15 a.m.

Activities for next week will include: Monday, food co-op at 9 a.m.; Tuesday, family picnic, sponsored by WASP, at Miller's Grove at 6 p.m.; Thursday, Worship and Music Committee meeting at 6 p.m., Cherub Choir party at 6:30 p.m.

The Cherub Choir will provide special music during the worship service on June 20. The Sunday School trip to Knoebel's Grove is scheduled for June 27.

Calvary UM

The Rev. Brian Reading will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. worship service this Children's Day Sunday in Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. Nursery care is available. Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m.

Also Sunday, an evening of praise and Bible study will begin at 6:30 p.m.

An evening of prayer and sharing will be held next Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Tamaqua native Steve Kropp will present a concert on June 26 at the Lewistown Valley Tabernacle.

Zion Lewistown

The Rev. Sunny Stock will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Zion Church in the Lewistown Valley. Sunday school classes will be held at 9:30 a.m.

The Vacation Bible School Program is scheduled for today, at 7:30 p.m.

Primitive Methodist

The Rev. Rodney Hall will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Primitive Methodist Church. A children's sermon will be included.

Sunday school for all ages begins at 9:30 a.m.

First Steps, a support group for mothers with young children, meets the first Tuesday of every month, at 6 p.m., at Primitive Methodist Church.

On Father's Day, June 20, morning services will not be held in lieu of participation in Tamaqua's Summerfest event. Instead, an informal dinner will be held at 6 p.m. on June 19, followed by a time of worship.
